Shopify handles the basics well and the hard parts badly. Almost every store we audit loses revenue in the same four places.
Collections are your money pages
Most category-level demand lands on collections, not products. Each priority collection needs unique intro and supporting content written around buying intent.
Control duplicate paths. Shopify's automatic collection and tag URLs create near-identical pages that dilute signals — canonicalise or block them deliberately.
Product data and schema
Ship valid Product schema with price, availability, GTIN and review data. It drives rich results and feeds AI product answers.
Write product copy that answers pre-purchase questions — sizing, compatibility, shipping and returns — rather than repeating supplier blurbs.
Feeds and internal linking
A clean Merchant Centre feed fixes far more than Shopping ads; it strengthens how engines understand your catalogue.
Add contextual internal links from content and collections to priority products so authority reaches deep pages.
Key takeaways
- — Collections deserve more content investment than individual products.
- — Faceted and tag URLs are the most common Shopify crawl leak.
- — Valid Product schema is now an AI visibility requirement.
